5: A marble monument is made in the form of a square pyramid. The edge of the base measures 2.35 feet and the altitude is 9.65 feet. Find the weight of the monument if the marble weighs 250 pounds per cubic foot.
Tip: Find the volume. Multiply the volume by 250 to find the total weight.

The answer is: 4441.01041665 pounds.

The area of a pyramid is 1/3 of the area of the base times the altitude. You get the area of the base by squaring the 2.35... that gives you 5.225. Divide that by 3 and that gives you 1.84083333333. Multiply that times the altitude 9.65 and that gives you 17.76404166666. That's the volume in cubic feet. Multiply that by 250 and you get the answer above.

The volume of a Pyramid = (length x width x height)/3
This pyramid has a square base, so length = width

So vol = (2.35 feet x 2.35 feet x 9.65 feet)/3 = 17.764 feet^3

Weight = volume x density = 17.764 feet^3 x 250 lb/feet^3

Weight = 4441 lbs
