If you mean parallel to y=2x + 5, then the slope will be 2

So you need to use:
y = 2x + b

Plug in your point (-1, 4) and solve for b:
4 = 2(-1) + b
4 = -2 + b
b = 6

So your line is:
y = 2x + 6

That equation doesn't contain that point. Did you want the equation of the line that's parallel and contains the point? If so, then it has the same slope so you just have to get the intercept:

4 = 2(-1) + b
b= 6

so y=2x+6 is parallet to your line and contains (-1,4)
