after assasination of rajiv gandhi unofficially sonia gandhi is the present prime minister is not it ,if the same thing happens again then who can tell that his up coming wifewill not be prime minister?

After the passing away of Indira Gandhi, the Congress Party started loosing confidence in its rank and file fearing infighting amongst its leaders to choose a successor for Indira and roped in her sole surviving son Rajiv who was a novice to politics just as Rabri Devi. To a large extent Rajiv did a good job in managing the affairs of the govt. and the party except the fact that he got caught in the Bofors scandal because of his Italian wife's Italian connections. General elections came and during the second phase of the poll campaign he was assassinated. The elections, you would observe, could be classified into Rajiv's pre-assassination polling and post-assassination. The sympathy factor was missing from the results of those constituencies which went to polls after the assassination clearly proved the people's maturity. The Congress did not get an absolute majority. They tried to persuade Sonia but she refused to jump into politics fearing her own life and that of her family. The Congress did not have an alternative but to identify a leader within themselves and they did. Mr.Narasimha Rao. He led a minority government (not a coalition) for a full five year term, admirably well. It was he who gave full freedom to Dr.Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister to carry out the reforms that took India to what it is today. The fact of the matter is that there is absolutely no dearth of talent in the Congress Party. There are a whole lot of Narasimha Raos and Manmohans but the Congress Party, of late, feels they are better off under a foreigner as their leader than to be led by one who is Indian born. They feel white is better than black. The Congress Party has wasted a boon granted to it by the people. Like in the epics even Gods grant boons with certain conditions. Just as the Brahmasthra. The Congress has used the Brahmasthra to fool people by utilising a great scholar as Dr.Manmohan as a sheer mouthpiece to the Italian born Sonia. People are very shrewd. If Rahul marries his foreign girl friend, people would certainly stamp the present Nehru Family anti-Indians.
