When writing a will, how much detail has to be put into it? Would I have to detail every item on every shelf and in every drawer and cupboard, for instance?

No.Make an itemized list under a certain heading for example, Tom gets my book collection etc, household items for Tom.
If there is a true quality item be sure to specify who gets it and list those items of interest separately. Name a well who becomes executor of your estate and be sure that person signs and agrees to do so and have all signatures notarized.

As a matter of fact, you should put only things in will which has significant financial and/ or of emotional value and you thing some one can have an argument for that particular object. Will is not for you, it's for the people you write it for and you want to live them peacefully.

As far as taxes are concerned and you are referring to Estate planning and living will questions, I wouldn't count on Yahoo board, will rather go to Estate Planning attorney. Good luck.

Depending on who's getting your stuff you should make sure there are no loop-holes or possible questions.

It pays to have a lawyer who specializes in wills draw yours up.....it'll prevent problems in the end.....even though you won't know about it. LOL

No. Just make sure to include "please do not fight over things. do this in a kind manner".

Try to do things very fairly. Good Luck.
