The main requirement I have is to be able to rewind the mp3 as when I restart a book I like to listen to a previous bit to remind myself where I was up to.
Also I need one that will start from the same place when I start listening to a title again.
I am not botherered about playing video.
Do most players have these functions?

iPod. You can click the center wheel while it's playing and rewind to any point you want. When you start listening again, it starts off exactly where you stopped.

i don't really understand what "the same place" in the second paragraph means but i can tell you about creative muvo v200 which is what i've got. it starts playing exactly where it stopped when you last turned it off. i had msi before and that one wasn't able to do that. off course you can rewind and ffwd on all the mp3 players, but speaking about other features, mine has got also a radio, where you can preset 10 stations, voice recorder, meaning it's got a built in microphone,and you can also record from the radio and use it as an usb key to tranfer data. up to 1gb. it souldn't be a problem to get something bigger though. and it's just an inch bigger that a box of matches. that's why it's better than all the ipods. you can check it out on www.creative.com. go to mp3 players, than in top left corner click muvo, and it's muvo v200. you can probably find something that will suit you better. all i can say is that this brand has very good references and you don't get your pants pulled down over the price either. good luck
