My "Smart Alec" answers:
1. Because it's impossible to look forward to the present or the past so I have to look forward to the future by default.
2. Because our brains have evolved to do so as a result of the survival advantage of being able to extrapolate from present circumstances into the future as a means of predicting and preventing potential threats to our survival as individuals.
3. Just because.
My "real" answers:
1. I may have a life after my PhD finishes.
2. I have friends who I know will support me and appreciate me through both good times and bad - whatever the future may bring.
3. Because I know there is so much in the world that I don't know and so much I have left to discover.

1. I'm young...I have a lot of things to look forward to experiencing in my lifetime.
2. I've no children...which means I've got a lot of freedom that people my age with children do not have.
3. There are places in the world I can't wait to see!! I want to travel and I look forward to seeing those places!!
