Depends on your browser, but it looks like it's crashing - could be corrupt temp files, spyware etc. I suggest as a precaution you clean out the junk on your system if you haven't done so already using CCleaner - it's free
http://www.ccleaner.com
the site has a useful tutorial. Make sure the browser is closed before you run it. If you are using Internet explorer, tick the box for index.dat files - these will be cleaned when you next reboot your pc.In the multimedia tab, tick boxes in the sections marked applications, internet and multimedia too.

Do a scan with some antispyware just to be safe. Use what you have or try Spybot, Adware or AVG antispyware - all downloadable here

If you're running internet explorer, go to Tools>Internet Options>General
then for IE6 click on settings in the temporary internet files section;
for IE7, click on settings in the browsing history section

click on view objects; if anything is flagged with a yellow exclamation mark, delete it. Don't worry as IE will prompt you to redownload anything you need.

As for a pop up blocker, IE and Firefox have built in pop up blockers. The google toolbar has an excellent pop up blocker too and will probably be sufficient. Or try smart pop up blocker

I don't know about the window closing...But about the pop up blocker: most new browsers have built-in ones, so it's probably just a matter of finding the switch that turns it on.

It sounds like a computer issue, not an internet issue. I'm not sure. Geek squad ftw !
