I don't want to delete the other songs I am able to play. So far I have had to find the unauthorized songs while playing thru shuffle, and deleting one by one. What are these unauthorized songs? Ones he bought online? Why so restricted?

You can do two options...

1) When your iPod is connected to the computer, tell your iPod to update manually through iTunes. You will be able to go through each song and find the songs that you wish to delete... But this will take _a lot_ of time.

2) Install iTunes and reformat your iPod. This will erase everything on the iPod and set it back to factory settings. This will also erase all the good songs that you were able to play on the iPod before. However, you will now be able to upload your music and not have this problem.

Set your ipod to manually update then click your ipod then click the very top song and scroll all the way down, Press shift while holding shift click the very bottom song that should turn them all blue then right click and click delete. I hope this Helps. This will delete all of the songs.
