I can personally confirm open4one's answer. I got laid off with two weeks severance. Good chunk of money, but you have to report it to the EDD. In general, as long as your company is paying into SSI insurance and you have been working for a full six months or so of work, you can claim unemployment benefits. I say this last part because most government sector jobs DO NOT pay into SSI. I am currently unemployed from a City job and am not eligible unemployment insurance.

I'm hip-shooting here, but I think it will not be a bar to collecting unemployment, but it may impact how soon you can collect. If they give you two weeks' pay, that may make you ineligible for two weeks.
