I then put the right gas in. Will anything happen?

Octane info: it is a common misconception that putting the wrong octane of gasoline in a car can cause damage. Here is a brief explanation of octane...

Regular unleaded (85-87 octane in most states) is gasoline that is blended to burn cooler than higher octane gasolines. Most US cars are tuned to run on regular (87 octane) gasoline.

Premium unleaded (usually 91 octane) burns at a higher temperature, and is designed for performance engines that are tuned for the higher octane gasoline.

Most stations provide a mid-grade (89 octane) which is basically a 50/50 blend of regular and premium (it is usually blended at the pump so that stations need only store two types of unleaded fuel).

What effect does using the wrong octane gasoline for your car have? If you use too low of an octane, your car will ping and may run a little rough. If you use too high of an octane, the fuel will burn hotter than intended and over time may damage seals and rings in your engine.

My grandmother always put premium in her car because she thought it was "cleaner". She used to say "it's more expensive so it must be better for my car". When I started in the refining industry and learned the truth about octane, I tried to explain it to her, but she wouldn't listen. Eventually she had to have a lot of work done to her "baby", but she was still happy.

A good rule of thumb is you should use the lowest octane your vehicle will run well on (i.e. without pinging). But to answer your question, no you are fine... just don't do it every day.

Hope this helps! :)

Oh no! just kidding. You may get slightly better mileage. Actually, the higher octane in the premium fuel will clean your fuel lines a little. It shouldn't hurt your car at all. If your manual recommends that you use regular, you should stick with that. Every now and then it's a good idea to use premium to clean out your fuel lines but don't use it always. If your car is designed to use regular, it will not benefit from higher octane fuel. Sometimes you need higher octane fuel if you have done any modifications to your engine or computer. All in all, a few gallons of premium won't kill your car. Don't worry

No, everything will be fine. If you put in a couple gallons of high octane (premium) gas, then fill the tank with lower octane gas, all you're really doing is very slightly raising the net octane of the gas in the tank. If your car is not designed for high octane, then the engine may not run at its best, but it will not damage anything. 1.5-2 gallons of high octane in a 12-14 gallon tank will not raise the net octane enough to make much of a difference.

OH yes
you would be out a lot of extra money for the higher cost of gas..
nothing will happen ..the car may feel a tiny bit peppier, but not all that much...
it would be different if you did it the other way around..a high test car putting regular in it..
but you are OK..and why would you want to spend the extra money to do this?

good luck

Nope, your car might run a little better, or may even get better gas mileage- but nothing bad will happen, nothing will like spontaneously combust or anything. You can mix gas in your car, as long as you don't put diesel in (which you shouldnt be able to do anyway because the pump nozzle is a different size)

You will have wasted the money difference between regular and premium, that's all. No, putting higher octane than called for won't hurt, (except your pocketbook), but it won't help either.

Added: Please ignore Marco polo. NEVER put lead additives into the tank of a vehicle that is supposed to use unleaded, all that will do is ruin your catalytic converters and cost you a bunch of money to replace them.

Nope you shoul be fine. Most cars run best on regular grade unleaded but it will not hurt your engine to put a higher octane fuel in it.

If u dont normally put it in your tank your check engine light may come on but it should go away after youve burned the gas

not at all, all that would happen would be the entire gas would mix and you would get 10 or 15 gallong of slightly higher octane
fuel, i wouldnt even worry about it

You probably did your car a favor. Premium or supreme is actually better for your car. It just costs you a little extra.
