A question was posted earlier about the U.K making remembrance day a bank holiday. This received a couple of replies from your fellow countrymen along the lines of "when you win some wars on your own" etc etc. My question is this, ignoring the technicalities of who won the war, the fact is we lost many people in those wars. So why is it you feel the need to insert your noses into what we do in our country. Are you all that arrogant, not to mention ignorant.
My guess is that even though i have asked this in a sensible and fair way the majority of Americans will just attack me without actually answering the question.

Daddy d- Thank you very much, that is exactly what i wanted to hear. Proof that you are not all the same.

2006-11-07 05:35:44 · update #2

Katbreek and danksprit- I did not say you all WERE, i asked if you all were. It was a question for you to disprove. Not an attack. But thank you both for proving my point.

Rich B- Thank you and well said. Totally agree, especially with the part about them not having the stones to say it face to face. I certainly think they wouldn't with the asker of the original question.

2006-11-07 05:46:11 · update #4

Danksprit- Quote me the exact part where i said all Americans are. I think you'll find i said Are all Americans, one is a statement sweetheart and one is a question. Judging by your answer here and in the email you sent me English obviously isn't your strong point is it. Learn to spell.
And just for your benefit you idiotic little child my best friend is American so i don't have a problem with all, just the ones like you.

2006-11-07 08:40:43 · update #5

Just a thought, but out of 23 answers only 5 attacked me and misread the question, obviously they are the ones who are uneducated and unable to understand a legitimate question.
To those Americans who answered with a thoughtful answer, thank you very much. I appreciate your comments and it's nice to see you're not all arrogant bullies.

2006-11-07 08:48:11 · update #6

Katbeek- thanks for the email and scrap what i said to you above.

2006-11-07 13:49:26 · update #7

Danksprit- i type your name as i see it on your avatar not the bit i can't see you tw@t.
And again i ask quote me the part where i said all americans ARE ignorant and arrogant which is what you accuse me of, you've just cited a completely different part. I asked for no kiss ***, what i asked for was for a proper coherent American to give me their view, not for a brain dead child like you to come on and make a complete fool of herself whilst proving my original point about ignorance and arrogance and not reading the question. Now p.iss of child i'm bored with you.
Have a nice day.

I think the Brits actually saved the world in my opinion. You guys held on until we yanks got involved in WW II. I also fought alongside British troops in Desert Storm and have the utmost respect for them. Thank you from a grateful American.

You see angel, but you didn't ask this in a sensable and fair way,
You asked why americans feel they have to stick their noe in your business.... Well if you didn't know, the government sucks a big D*CK.
I'm quite sure Your Britian has their fair share of arrogant and iggnorant Americans.
Why should a british holiday matter here. Honestly. Your country can do whatever you want, I don't know why those people answered a guestion that way, but look at other answers, that question is not the fiorst to get Childish nonthought out answers.
You did win the wars, It was a group effort, there was not one party that did better than the other. It's like a friendship, help whenever possible, in my opinion thats what America did, was HELP, and thats it, we didn't save anyones @sses, But I must say I was hurt by your remarks, because did you see me answer that question, then why GENERALIZE. I know British hate when americans generalize them as stuck up fancies. so haven't you heared the term two wrongs don't make a right? I know better than that, I'm friends with a few brits, their really nice, and they don't generalize ALL americans.
I'll be the first to admit
THERE ARE REALLY STUPID PEOPLE ON Y!A, but not ALL of them are americans. The way you presented yourself in your guestion, is no better than the arrogance you encountered in the question you talked about.
I hope you don't go through life distrusting all of us, then you could miss out on Knowing a lot of cool people.
Hey If you can't take corrective criticism, then don't post a question. Yes you DID say ALL americans were like this, justify it any way you want but that IS what you said.

"why is it you feel you can insert your noses in what we do in our country" Inever inserted my nose, In anyones business.
You are just looking for kiss @ss americans, I'm not even FULL american, But I don't attack all brits for what you did to my country, ireland. MY GOD you talk about my spelling, YOU CAN'T EVEN SPELL MY NAME RIGHT, deedeedee.

Sadly a large number of the population here is educated in government schools, and as with most any country, what you leave up to the government's control usually goes wrong.
I don't believe that the majority of Americans have a grasp of our own history let alone another country.
Yes, there are many arrogant and ignorant people in the world, but no, not all Americans are.

We're not all that ignorant, I promise.

And for the remark (that someone else said) about only 10% of us having a passport, it is expensive for us to go anywhere. Starting in 2007 we will need a passport for Canada, Mexico, and the Carribean, so that number will sky-rocket. As far as other places, I'm not a chunnel away from another country, I'm about $2000 away, not including hotel. As soon as I have money falling out of my rear, I'll be happy to visit anyone's country. In the meantime, don't judge us on something you know nothing about.

But you have a legitimate question, there are some arrogant and ignorant people here, but its not just Americans, it seems to be a few bad apples out of every bushel.

"When you win wars on your own"? Exactly what wars have they won on their own? Korea? Vietnam? Iraq? Afganistan? Even in the war of independance they were actually losing untill the French helped them. This is not an attack on americans but just proves a point that wars are not won by individuals but by groups.

Also that shouldn't really matter as remeberance day is about remembering that peoples loved ones died to save us, in the hope that future generations dont go down the same path, not on the victory itself.

Here is a question for the American's how many wars have you won, as far as I know you have won exactly none, the so called American war of independance was won by the French and other mercenaries who were fighting alongside people who were still called Englishmen until after the war was over, the fact is if the Germans had not declared war on you in the second world war you would have stayed out of the european fighting and continued to make your millions from trading with the Germans.

I am a proud American and I find your statement generalizing all Americans to be arrogant and ignorant yourself. You do not have the right to accuse all Americans when it was only a couple who said derrogatory remarks. If the UK wants to make Rememberance Day a bank holiday, who am I to question it? I do not live in your country nor am I affected by what holidays you celebrate or not. By all means have your holiday, if that is your right. I respect the customs of those who do not share my own.

And please, think before speaking again. The few people who speak on this forum are not an accurate representation of the millions of Americans.

No attack here. It's a fact that some people have personality issues that make them feel better about their sad, pathetic existence in being rude to others and getting away with it. Especially on the web, where their anonymity is guaranteed. IE: No payback for being stupid and thoughtless. My guess is that very few of them would have the stones to say these things standing in front of the person they are insulting. Just shrug it off and mark the asinine comments up to stupidity...and there's plenty of that lately isn't there? You have to develop the skin of a T-Rex to survive these days...sad isn't it?

You just generalized all American as arrogant and ignorant. If you don't expect to get attacks maybe you are. I am sure where you are you have arrogant, ignorant people just as we do in the US. Please do not characterize everyone in the US as such, I myself am not trying to attack you. Everyone from pretty much any country has a sense of pride of their country. We may not agree with all decisions made in our country but the pride still remains. So ignore the ignorant answers and focus on the ones you like.

I didn't see the first question. But for any American that be-littles the British, let me apologize. Most Americans value the British people. We have stood together in many wars. When the Americans and the British stand together people listen.

It's very unfair to generalise.I would like to think that the Republicans get hammered in the mid-term elections, because it's their arrogance & brutality that has fueled hatred of all things American. The good ,decent ones' are being blamed along with the gobshites.
