The Tom Scum left Nicole when she was 3 months pregnant. So I don't think sterile was ever an issue.

I dont think it was ever stated exactly why Tom and Nicole adopted...everyone just assumed it was him...Katie's bump did look all different shapes and sizes, didnt it? A local radio show was saying that Nicole and Keith were hoping to adopt(this was b4 he went to rehab)so , I'd have to speculate that it's nicole that is unable to conceive/carry a baby.

There is some photo evidence to her different sizes during the "pregnancy" that would support an adoption theory. How long was he married to Nicole?... isn't the sterility thing why they had to adopt.
