this might sound stupid but my car is not power steering... is it possible to have it changed to power steering? and if so how much does it cost?

This is a project for a do-it-yourselfer.
It would cost WAAAAYYyy to much to pay a shop to make the conversion. If you choose to do it yourself, you can purchase ALL of the components at a wrecking yard from a donor car. Be sure that the donor wasn't involved in a front-end collision.
If you are not up to it, trade the car, or use the driving time as an alternative to going to the gym.
