Courage? It is not a fight, not a mountain to destroy. To repent, you just have to recognise your error and not do it again. That's all what repenting is all about.
According to christianism, once you take jesus for your saviour, you are saved and jesus becomes your friend, saviour and the holy spirit will be working on you, to make you a better person.
Isn't it an easy religion? :)

If I have anything to repent it is because the government does allow same sex marriage and is making me a sinner.

If that floats your boat - go for it.
Also, don't have sex before marriage if you don't believe in it and they you won't have to repent for it. I think Jesus might dig that even more.

Where exactly does Jesus say this? I would check this before repenting, it saves trouble.
Added: to yummygood below here, it's also very easy to put all responsibility of your actions to some outside being and saying you were right because god watches you and has not punished you.
