Every 3rd month begins a new trimester. so, 12 weeks is the end of the first, 24 is the end of the second, and then the third trimester goes from 25 weeks until you give birth, preferably 36 - 40 weeks.

The first trimester ends at 13 weeks. There are 40 weeks so there are 13 weeks in the first trimester, 14 weeks in the 2nd trimester, and 13 weeks in the last trimester.

This is what all of my pregnancy books and my doctor said about the length of the trimesters:
First trimester- first day of last menstrual period to 12 weeks.
Second trimester- 13 weeks to 27 weeks.
Third trimester- 28 weeks until the time of delivery. Time of delivery can vary by woman and circumstance, but delivery normally occurs between 37 weeks and 42 weeks. Earlier than 37 weeks, it's considered pre-term pregnancy/delivery. Any later than 42 weeks, it's considered a post-term pregnancy/delivery.
Ultrasound screening may be performed during various times of a pregnancy (I had several because my son was breech, where some women may only have two or three) to monitor fetal growth and to detect fetal abnormalities or defects, but it usually isn't until the second trimester, around 18-20 weeks of gestation that an ultrasound screening may determine the sex of the baby. Though it may be detected earlier on or at a later time, depending on fetal development and the position of the baby.

It relies upon on the physician or midwife. It varies for all of them. 40 weeks is genuinely equivalent to 10 months. in accordance to what to assume once you're watching for, the 4th month starts off at "approximately 14 weeks". the way i bypass by potential of it, in case you desire to divide it into trimesters, is to divide 40 by potential of three. once you do this, you get 13 weeks with a the remainder of a million. So, the 2d trimester starts off at approximately 13 a million/2 weeks. The 0.33 trimester starts off at 26 a million/2 weeks.

1st trimester: 1-15 wks (1-3 mos)
2nd trimester: 16-27 wks (4-6 mos)
3rd trimester: 28-40 wks (7-9 mos)
These are of course averages. The average women is pregnant 40 wks but the pregnancy is considered full term if you last for at least 36 wks.
