I remember in years past i would see a game that looked good and buy it, and it would be great. but now they are coming out with so many crappy games and movie based video games that i find myself renting from blockbuster more than i am buying. and its not just because i play it once and then get sick of it, it is just so horrible. i think developers need to think before they make new games.

EXAMPLES:
like 900 WWII games came out, then it went to Nam after.
Medal of Honor
like nine of them: all the same
Call of Duty
same same same

these crappy racing games:
Need for Speed
all of them. they went from racing to modding and ****
Juiced
just ****
Midnight Club
also ****
and numerous ones no one cares about. i am sick of this. make a decent freaking game with an original idea. FFS

To be honest, gaming has hit a bit of a downward spiral since it's now more based on getting name recogninision than putting quality work out. I mean, when you first had Goldeneye, Half Life, MoH (the first one) and all that, these were quality games. No one doubted them. But, as time progressed, companies just now slap a name brand on and people buy it.
Take the Command and Conquer seires. It started out as Command & Conquer (aka Tiberian Dawn). Then came Red Alert, which was fine and all. Then Tiberian Sun, which picked up after Command & Conquer, but wasnt as good. Then you had Red Alert 2, which was a prime example of just slapping a name on a box. It didnt relate enough to Red Alert. Finally, EA crossed the line when they slapped the Command & Conquer title on Generals, which was a bad move because it had nothing to do with Command & Conquer. It would have been just fine as its own title. But again, name recgonision is the key now.
And these days, it's just easier to use World War 2, Vietnam, movies and already existing storylines to make their games to make a buck. This is where you start getting all these games based on movies, which is also something that's getting old fast.
All in all, it's no longer about making quality games, although I applaud those who do try to defy this logic, but rather to make a buck off of us.

i agree, and the same thing is happening with music and movies. why? BECAUSE PEOPLE BUY THEM. they spend millions and millions on these s hitty games, so they churn more and more and more out, all the same.

have you played katamari damacy? it's the most original game i've seen maybe ever, and a game designer didn't come up with the idea. a normal lady who didn't even play video games came up with the idea and they made it for her.

as for call of duty though, i must say even if WW2 games isn't an original idea, they did it best. the worst offender isn't shooters, it's RPG's. if you've played one RPG, you've played all of them, yet millions are made every year. and look at final fantasy... same game, and they make sequel after sequel after sequel, all the same. and people eat it up.

now we've got grand theft auto, bully and scarface... all the same game with different characters. it's terrible. the other original is the sims .. maybe spore will be good, made by the maker of the sims
