The name "funny bone" derives from the fact that the bone in your upper arm, the humerus, is a homophone of the word "humorous". When you "hit your funny bone", you get a sensation that is not funny at all...IT HURTS! At the distal end of the humerus (basically, the part of the bone that lies at the elbow joint) there is a nerve called the ULNAR NERVE which runs in a shallow "valley" within the humerus itself. This landmark is called the "groove for the ulnar nerve" on the humerus. Sometimes this nerve can be pinched upon the bony parts that surround it, and when it does you get the sensation of pain. You should be aware that the ulnar nerve provides the sensation of touch from the pinky finger and half of the ring finger, so when you HIT the nerve (as something strikes the elbow in the exact location of the nerve) you "feel" the pain in these two fingers. OUCH!!!!
Hope this explanation helps!

Your funny bone is located in your elbow, where a nerve ending can cause a serious jolt of pain from a bump. Although it is called the funny bone, it is actually the ulnar nerve. The name "funny bone" may come from the peculiar tingling feeling you get when it is hit, or from the fact that the name of the bone in the upper arm is the humerus, which is homophonic to the word "humerous."

it does not provide the identical style of ache like when you have been to get kicked within the shins. the elbow can not bruise and it's made of lifeless dermis (pinch it as rough as you prefer, not anything), however whilst you hit your humorous bone, this can be a small little nerve that hit simply correct outcome in a bizarre sensation style of like humming. a few persons consider it hurts mucho, a few consider it's humorous. i consider it bought its title cuz anybody hit it at some point and began leaping up and down and all of the persons who noticed that idea it was once so humorous that they named it the funnybone. who is aware of?

the term funny bone is actually misleading...the bone in your arm that goes from your shoulder to your elbow is called your humerus...then there are two bones that connect from your elbow to your wrist that run side by side...your ulna and your radius. the radius is on the inner part of your arm (on the side where your thumb is) and your ulna is on the outer part. when you hit your elbow, it is actually the olecranon process of your ulna bone. you never actually hit your humerus ("funny bone") when you hit your elbow! but people think they're hitting they're humerus and so call it your funny bone. :) Go here if you want to know lots about the ulna. :)
