its different to people. i think the meaning of life is to be happy with what you did in life. its being able to reflect on what you did and not be ashamed of it. that's what the meaning of life is to me.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

Do i sense depression here?
The meaning of life? YOU have to be the one to give life a meaning because it's you who lives it, no one else will live it for you. It's not a simple question. Life means all things wrapped into one, from the moment you open your eyes in the morning til' the moment you close them at night. Every day you see, smell, hear, talk and feel. It's the senses that give a meaning to life, without them life has no meaning.

This question is usually flawed because the asker doesn't know what he/she is asking. If you're asking what meaning is there IN life, that's a different question than if you're asking if life itself has a hidden message or if life can some how impart meaningful information.
Meaning is relevant to two sides of a communication: the transmitter and the receiver. Ask yourself, as a living creature, if being both the transmitter and receiver of meaning gives you any difficulty in understanding the "meaning of life."

Purification; sort of like a diamond in the rough being chiseled and cut into perfection. It is an opportunity to experience, learn and grow and in the joys and pains of that growth, comes the rewards of purification and cleansing. In other words, you are here to learn, grow and become the best you can be as a human being, and once you are totally cleansed, you are ready for the most purified and exulted place (heaven). It is a ‘heaven’ not because it has rivers of silver and gold and happiness, but because there you will have earned to be in the presence of God. It is like having the best of two worlds and tasting of what they have to offer...no loss...just pure existence...pure living...pure being! You get to experience the best and the worst and death makes both worth while for the promise of something better.
In summary:
Ithaca
When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.
Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.
Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.
Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.
And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean.

The meaning of life can be defined many ways. In the buddhist culture it means finding Nirvana or complete zen. In the Christian culture it means showing your true faith before going to heaven. It could be many different things... the meaning of life could be different for you. But all I know is that you have to live llife to the fullest because you know that one day you won't have a chance to. Take advantage of your days because they are numbered and don't be afraid of who you are....

life is temporary, & so is it's meaning.
it's meaning is not elusive, but more of an evolving nature, just as humans & thier minds.
so, this is a question 2 be pondered upon & cleared not now, but when humans reach their evolutionary finale.....until then, let's try to answer the humbler questions posed in yahoo.

According to Monty Python:
Well, it's nothing special. Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all
creeds and nations.
