How can this hockey team that got to the Stanley Cup play-offs 2yrs in a row get so bad. They are only one step better than the Coyotes. What happened to the Kipper. Do you think they will trade Jerome Igilna?

Calgary has a recent history of slow starts and finishing well. IF you noticed, they have only played 2 divisional games so far this season, both against Edmonton, and there are 30 divisional games left. Those games are the 4-point swing games. They started out with a long road trip East, then some odd scheduling back home that had them play 2 games in 9 nights. Not an excuse, but a possible cause.

Kipper....yup, doesn't look like himseld until the last few games. He dominated last night versus the Stars. His GAA will be down where it typically is by mid season.

Also, the Flames scoring has improved over last season, but needs to improve. Give them time to figure out the lines and we'll see more.

Finally, we aren't that bad. Look at the standings this morning, and they are only 4 points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand. They are only 5 points out of 2nd in the divison with 2 games in hand. Wins on friday and saturday will bring them back to the .500 mark, similar position to last year.

There is nothing wrong with the Flames.

GO FLAMES GO!!

I know I am going to get a lot of thumbs-down for this one, but the 04 playoff run was a fluke. That season, the Canucks were one of the best teams in the league, there was a general feeling that they could be a serious threat. The line of Bertuzzi-Morrison-Naslund was arguably the best line in the NHL. Then the Bertuzzi-Moore incident happened, the Canucks lost Bert for the year, and the whole media attention was not a plus for the team. All things considered, that first round series with Calgary went to 7 games, had Bertuzzi not been suspended I am willing to be the Canucks would have won that series, probably in less than 7 games, and the rest of Canada would have been jumping on the Canucks bandwagon that year instead of the Flames. Mateo - My team is Colorado, not the Canucks I just stated my opinion, which was if Bertuzzi played the Flames would have been out in the first round and ppl would have been jumping on the Canucks bandwagon instead.

I think their problem is that they just aren't as good as many in the media seem to think. That's not a knock on anyone, but I really don't see them being that talented.

Their biggest problem is the lack of depth on offense. Iggy is great and makes his linemates better, but it's not a good sign when you're throwing out names like Lombardi, Kobasew and Huselius on your second line. Tony Amonte is showing his age, as is McCarty, and there just aren't that many guys who can the puck in the net on a regular basis.

Their D and goaltending are still strong, even with Kipper's struggles. Phaneuf is outstanding, Regehr and Hamrlik are steady, and their other defensemen quietly do a good job.

The Flames won't allow a lot of goals this season, but they'll be done in by their inability to score. Playing defensive hockey all the time was good enough to win before the strike, but it's not a sound idea with the rules now being enforced.

Kipper is looking pretty brutal out there. Sundin's 500th was bad as were his other 2 in that game...

Calgary mistakenly thought of Tanguay as a #1 Center. They are lacking that. They should go after Forsberg. Him and Iggy would be a great combo.

But this team is tough and will pick it up in the second half of the season..

Calgary Flames are not very good right now is because they are not getting the balance scoring and they just don't have too many players that are consident goal scorers

I personally think they lost their edge when Sutter stopped coaching. The teams identity of hard nose hockey was lost when he decided to just act as the GM.

they will never trade Igilna, he's their franchise player. The problem with the Flames is coaching. They need a new coach to guide this realitivly tallented team into the playoffs.

it was just a fluke that they made it to the finals two seasons ago. They had two lucky years and are now going back to where they always were....out of playoffs, near the bottom of the league.
