i have a co-worker, shes an older lady.we always get stuck in some way or another with her work.she is the receptionist for retirement and she always seems to get backed up with her work so instead of asking us for help, she will complain to her boss about the workload and also to our boss and it puts a heavy burden on the front counter to take on our work and her work.alot of times she doesnt even do her work, she tends to sit at her desk and have her phone forwarded to the front desk for no reason.when i bring it to her attention, she will say she forgot or that shes not on break.well if you arent on break you should be answering your phone.ive talked to my boss and supv. plenty of times but i dont think her boss cares too much.they have backup for her but they choose to use us.i dont want to go to the director so what else should i do?

I am . The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 or 80/20 rule ) states that most of the results of your system are achieved by a small amount of the tasks performed OR for many phenomena, 80% of the consequences stem from 20% of the causes. so by generalizing this to work , 20 % of employee done 80% of the works . lazy people are every where , they even might get recognized and promoted while you set down behind your desk doing the same work . However chances are that sooner or later you will be known as the hard worker or the key employee but be patient.

Live with it as I do. I work with a younger person who does nothing but talk and eat. And snap my head off occasionally, too. That's life, that's work. I complain to my co-workers but not the boss. I tried that, and it got me in more trouble than it was worth. Some people are immune.

Only do what you feel is your fair share of work. If you and the company have disagreements then obviously it wasn't meant to be. Perhaps looking for backup options wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Me, me, me! There will always be that one person you work with that you just can't stand... you can complain and talk to the person as much as you want but it isn't going to change anything from my experience. There's just not much you can do... Good Luck ; )
