Mobile phones allow for greater independence without sacrificing security.
*I move often and don't need to update everyone I know with a new phone number even if I have moved to a different town because my mobile phone will still work.
*I often drive through a fairly remote area (15 miles between towns) and if I have car trouble or witness an accident, I am able to request help immediately from the safety of my own vehicle. I have used my mobile phone for such emergencies several times.
*If something happens to my parents or other family member, I can be reached no matter what I am doing. When my sister was dying, my parents ended up contacting the local police department to have them find me because I was at on an overnight trip. My brother could not be located until the next day.
*When you are expecting an important phone call, you are not stuck at home by the phone. You can run errands, go to the gym, or mow the lawn and still be available when your call comes in.
