It all depends on the fish they are different so you will get different results for example a Oscar grows one inch a month for about 7-9 months then it slows its growth but if you have a 3 inch Oscar then you know it is about 6-7 months old but like I said fish are different and can be hard to tell

On some fish, the number of spots they have may indicate how old they are. One pot=one year.

i think its in the same way in telling the age of a tree,,through its ring and for fish through its scales,,if you look it carefully there are curve lines or semi circle lines,,one line means a year and so on....

If you put one of their scales under a microscope, you'll see growth rings just like in a tree. One ring for each year.
