Really it's a toss-up.

WD's are usually a little faster,,,especially the 7200rpm/8mb buffer models,,,"JB" "special edition".
They have either 1yr or 3 yr warranty.

Seagates are usually a bit quieter & cooler.
Not much "real world" difference, but a measureable amount.
They also have 5 yr warranty.

I've had good results & service from both brands.

Price may be the deciding factor,,Buy whichever is a better deal.

SELLER/Vendor may be a deciding factor,,,,
You can buy all that stuff from Mailorder or Locally,,,and from Good,Reputable Dealers & from Bad Ones.

If you happen to have a problem early in drive's life,,first few weeks---a GOOD vendor will often Help & get you a replacement quickly.
"Bad Vendors" just leave you to deal direct with manufacturer.

Me personally,I already own more WD's than anything---so I would probably Chose another WD .

Your Intel board is a very good board,,but it's considered "old".

A WD Hi-perf drive can add a bit of extra power/performance.
I would chose a WD 7200rpm/8mb buffer model for that reason.

But Seagate is just as good and I would not hesitate to buy one.

You really can't go wrong with either one.

Hope that helps.

**another thing.
You are probably planning to buy a NEW drive,I assume.

I buy a bunch of Used Drives,..if I can get a good deal.
But I do NOT depend on them...I use them strictly for things that dont matter.

Stick with Brand New Drives as a main, primary drive.

Used & "factory re-furbs" usually are not a large enough
$$$ savings to be worth the risk.

I use Seagate, they have a 5yr warranty rather than a 1yr with WD. But then again, Seagate just bought WD.

I've had various hard drives and few have failed, but nowadays when i need new hard drives for myself or customers, i try and buy Seagate, since they have 5 year warranties on their products.

most others have cut their warranties down to 1 or 3 years. Which suxx @ss!!

I prefer Western Digital.

Brand doesn't matter. Just make sure your next hard drive has 16MB of cache, so you can enjoy the extra boost in performance.

All of the major brands have a model, and they cost less than $200, so now you just need to choose your size.

If you're in Indonesia, I would like to suggest you : SEAGATE.
why ???? Because Western Digital's SUCKS in Indonesia !!!!

And also There's a special edition model for seagate in Europe.

I use western digital myself but they're both excellent brands. I'd recommend either one.
