I got my tounge peirced on Saturday Nov 4th and the tip of my tounge feels like its burning- kind of like when you eat a hot food and it burns your tounge and you get the hot stinging effect. Like that but on the tip and edge of my tounge. It makes food feel weird. Plus my tounge is still sore, my gums around the top of my teeth (just the top set) are hurting and theres a white ring around the barbell. Is this a sign of infection and what do I do? Im rinsing my mouth out whenever I eat or drink and taking care of it like I am supposed to. I dont know what else to do.
Help appreciated.
Amanda

Yep, that's an infection. Use salt water or hydrogen peroxide to rinse your mouth out after you eat or drink anything and at least 5 times a day. If it does get better in a few days or gets worse, see a doctor quickly, an infection in the mouth can spread and be serious very quickly. He may have you take the barbell out, but you can always put it back in or have it repierced, you can't get another mouth.

Please see your doctor. The human mouth contains all types of bacteria. Piercing your tongue only allows this bacteria in to your system and can cause an infection. There can be some serious side effects including a fistula in to your brain in severe cases of infection. When in doubt, see your doctor so this may be treated properly and quickly. Once healed, you should be able to finally enjoy your piercing. Good luck

I do not think tongue rings are a good thing. Your mouth is full of bacteria, even with meticulous rinsing. If I were you I would take the ring out and let your tongue heal.

Sounds like an infection, where did you get it pierced?

If it's in some unauthorized place; see a doc ASAP.

See your doctor. And pull out that tongue ring. It represents a serious risk for infection (if you don't already have one)...and while it may be "cool", it's also disgusting.

Stop eating hot food. Eventually it will pass. It's too late to get your lip unpierced.
