The role of communication in modern society is much too much important today.
People tend to forget the 'here and now' and their personal responsibilities and focus on outside influences.
There is too much input of communication, and it impedes the family group enormously as far as internal communication and interaction.
Everybody in the family pod is distracted by their own outside communications. The family is disintegrating because there is no closeness.
And if you watch the news - they are always there to 'communicate' to the retards (who aren't intelligent enough to do it on their own) just exactly how to make a bomb, or how to be a serial killer, etc.

To stay in Touch.
We do it by computers, cellphones, phones, television, radios, and personal communication (talking).
We have let high technology take over our worlds. We have stopped talking and feeling and being with each other. So many are not using the internet to make contact with others for friendship and rommance. We never have to even leave our homes.
Why make the effort to see others? Why talk to our friends when we can email them instead? Why do to a meeting or club for friendship when we can meet with others online? Why go to lunch to talk with a friend when we can talk on the cellphone while driving to work?
God made us to have HUMAN contact. This is how we are wired for good health. We need to lay down the cell and shut down the computer and get out of the house and office and CONNECT.

Communication is a method of exchanging information through signs, symbols, or a common language. Over thousands of years, the exchanging of information has evolved from symbols/signs, word-of-mouth, written text, radio, telegraph, telephone, television, and the internet; but, the role has remained the same: to inform.
If your query alludes to the "responsibility" of our current media to society, restate your question.
