20 weeks is the GOLD STANDARD for gender determination.

I had an ultrasound yesterday, I'm 15 weeks along. They were unable to tell yet. He said he had an "idea", but not enuff to say either way. I go back in 4 weeks, he claims that it is best to wait until you are 18+ weeks along. It makes the margin for error much much lower. So I guess I'll find out on December 4th! Best of luck to you!!

Found out at 17 weeks with first girl, the second baby is still hiding its gender at 36 weeks with 4 ultrasounds. And another on Thursday.

You have to be 16 weeks. The external gentiles are formed at 14 weeks, but they look too much a like to determine usually. Most doctors and insurance companies only do ultra sounds at about 20 weeks pregnancy, by then if your baby co-operates you should have a clear idea of what you're having.

3 months, when the development is further along is best, but you can never tell for sure by using Ultrasound...

My Sister had one 2 days before she had the baby - They said it was a boy; she had a girl. I had complications and had one every week from 6 months on, they always said it was a girl (I had them check every week!) and it was.

The only way to be 100% sure is through amniocentesis, which unless there are other compelling reasons, you should not have just to determine the sex.

Some techs will be able to tell by 15 weeks, but you are better off to play it safe and wait until at least 18 weeks, because most health insurances will only allow 2 ultrasound some only allow one. So I would not do unless you are prepared to pay out of pocket.

I was told at 18 weeks with my first, it was right. I was told at 14 with my second, it was right. My doctor told me at my 13th week i was having a girl, and i will find out as i get another ultrasound Tomorrow (wk 16) My OB said they the "goodies" start to form around 10 weeks. But the longer you wait, the more accurate the they are. If you only get one ultrasound, your best bet is to wait until the normal 18 to 20 week ultrasound! BUt even then they could be wrong!! Just depends if your baby is giving you a good shot, and if the tech is good.!!!

I work for an ultrasound place booking appointments and the real awnser is 17weeks pregnant and they can tell u the gender..that is if they are sure enough. They probably could see it technically at 14weeks but will not disclose that information prior to 17weeks.

An average of 16 to 21 weeks is what most doctors do.
