The creepy is a good thing. The shivers down the spine.
I like H.P. Lovecraft, too, he wrote the creepiest story I have ever read in my entire live.

His use of human emotions in his characters is the Poe quality that I enjoy. The Cask of Amontillado and the desire for revenge. The Raven with its use of sorrow. The Tell-Tale Heart and its use of guilt. Poe's writing took a singular approach to an emotion and built a story around it.

I love the fact that his stories continue to creep me out, entertain me even after reading them several times. And his poems set such wonderful scenes. Read The Bells, and you can almost hear the bells ring.

And, you have to remember that his work was cutting edge when he wrote it - they didn't have CSI making everyone aware & accustomed to the twisted depravity of certain human souls ...

His use of repetition - make his works very enjoyable to read aloud. He was really ahead of his time.
