maybe you're nervous because you're aware that the whole class is listening to you and subconsciously, you're afraid to make mistake .Or you're just being too self-conscious about it. We all have the same quality more or less, people wanting to make good impressions, when the irony of it is that you have to make mistakes to be a better person.

I too dealt with this problem from time to time during my school days. Personally, I have a huge problem with articulating myself. Some occassions are better than others but the fact remained that I feared I would be wrong or my answer(s) would be rejected in some way. More than anything, this problem stems from self esteem issues that continue to go unresolved.
My advice to you...listen to the question being asked, accept the fact that learning is a communal activity that involves a variety of answers from many perspectives, and speak up. Later on you'll wish you did!

Probably because you are getting attention from the whole class when your teacher does that. Puts you in the spotlight, and whether you are a confident person or a shy one, that would make anyone nervous. I think a classroom can be fairly compared to battle arena, whether in high school or in college, the attention you get if you are incorrect, or even correct, but say it wrong is not comfortable.

hey I'm in the 8th grade and i went through the same thing. i always got nervous that if i answer wrong, the teacher might question me on why i chose that answer and i wont be able to answer her. i used to just sit there and flip through my textbook "looking" for the reason on why i chose that answer. but after a little help now I'm able to defend my choices whether they are right or wrong.remember, its your job to speak ur mind.

Who doesn't!

It's more a problem of public speaking, attention on you (which means how you look, dress, act) and student reactions. Plus you might get the answer wrong and face a comment or two!

Oh, that always happens to me. I think because maybe like the whole class is listening for your answer and you might think you are wrong or something. Just be calm and say that i can do it.

You are used to competing with your siblings for your parents attention.
This carries over into the classroom where you are afraid of your teachers rejection if you fail to answer the question correctly.

This is very normal. For many people public speaking can cause anxiety. I would suggest you look into it a bit more, because anxiety disorders (not saying you have it) are very common, but your life may go a lot easier if you see a professional.

I always did. I was really shy and afraid that others would make fun of me. I later learned that others thought i was stuck up.

you are probably more shy or self conscious than you realize. Just know that everyone is a little bit shy and unsure of themselves not just you.
