Teachers use tests or examinations to see what you know about a certain subject. They need to see if you know and or understand what they are teaching you. It is also used as a benchmark to see what kind of progress you are making! I don't know too many people that actually enjoy exams, but they are done for a reason....

So that you will know what you have achieved and what you may need to work on. Think of an exam as not being for "them" but for yourself, to benchmark where are you in your education.
