If you have the notion, pull the muffler off of the engine. If the inside of the cylinder and/or the surface of the piston is gouged or scarred, you will need to replace it. Chances are it either didn't have enough oil, or it had the wrong kind of oil in it. DO NOT use boat engine 2 stroke oil. It will not lubricate an air cooled engine properly, they run too hot and burn the oil right out of the gas. If you decide to replace the machine, do yourself a favor and go buy a Stihl or an Echo. These are high quality machines, that with proper maintenance will last for years. Don't go to Wal Mart or the Home Depot and expect quality. But if the engine is shot, it is going to cost as much to fix as a new machine would cost, possibly more.

Like the ones you buy at Wal-Mart they were only meant to last a season. If you have a Stihl then you have a better product and would not have seized in the first place, unless of course you use cheap oil or no oil. You can buy one at Wal-Mart for what you would pay for repairs.

Usually the cost of repair will be nearly the cost of a new one. Vibration, dust, and dirt are the biggest enenies next to improperly mixed gas.

My opinion is to replace over repair.

determine WHY it "seethed". maybe the coil has come loose or something minor. if it's the piston, junk it! now's a good time to tear something mechanical apart & see what makes it tick. nothing to loose.
