A person can be an artist without a painting....but a painting can't be a painting unless it is painted.

Thus the artist creates the painting and the painting exists because it was painted.

Whether or not the painting is good or bad would be subjective to the one who sees it.

It can be a horrible painting and still be a painting.

The artist creates the painting. There's not much philosophical depth here. You can be an artist without creating art. You cannot create art without being an artist.

I just finished a painting doing exactly like you mentioned. I did the photoshop work and then did a painting from that using oils and it turned out pretty good i might add. Although photoshop painting is not easy ,it's still not as impressive as a real oil painting.None the less I do appreciate people who do photoshop paintings, they are really difficult to do,even for a good artist that knows nothing about digital art.I, myself still prefer oils over digital. But I do give credit where it is due.

The artist begins the creation of the painting within his mind then the painting takes over and decides for itself how it will be done.

The artist creates the painting but the painting is the 'mirror' of the artist.

In your opinion, what or who creates the image in the mirror when you stand infront of it? You? or the mirror?

In my opinion, the image is the MERGING of you both; only THEN is the image...FULLY realized. :)

The idea and inspiration creates both. Without the idea or the imagination to create then art would simply be idealistic and pointless.

You can be an artist in soul if not in fact. You can see a great sunset and feel it artistically. I'm sure you yourself have experienced that.

The answer is BOTH!!!! The arstist creates the work and has his/her view of it, but then everybody that sees it creates his.her own view of it, called the gaze. Nobody can define one as right or the other as wrong! Both just are!!!!! HEAVY!!!
