Hmm, hard to tell. It is like trying to think what is nearer to apples - oranges or peaches.

I think Ballroom (Latin) is nearer.

Well I guess that depends on what you mean by western dancing! If you mean western dance as in Country western dancing then I'd be inclined to say ballroom. However if you mean western daance in the sence of a misture of more modern styles like modern dance, jazz, lyrical, etc... I'd say western. The thing is that neither of them are all that similar because bellydance is very unique in comparison to dances done by western cultures. Most dances of western cultrues focus largely of footwork (placement of feet and steps) while bellydance uses very little foot work and focuses more on isolating muscles. Focusing largely on the hips, stomach and torso but also using the whole body. Most dances in western culture tend to focus on the feet and want the rest of the body to remain still. Think of irish dance where the upper body is completely still. Ballroom dance also requires keeping the upper body for the most part in a rather rigid still form while moving the feet and to some degree the hips (especially in latin styles). They are really poor comparsisons either way.

Latin ballroom, probably. Since latin ballroom requires so much hip movement while still doing other moves at the same time, bellydancers already have some of the skills for it.

I've found what little latin ballroom I've tried easy due to my bellydance training. :3
