I had to replace all breakers in my home plus new meter box due to breakers arcing. could it have blown the heating element? it is a Rheem electric 30 gallon

it is usually the thermostat that blows as a result of power cut and temporary fluctuations in the amps , replacing the thermostat is much cheaper than replacing the element and does not require draining the water first , check the wiring on the thermostat if you take a screwdriver and set it back to zero degrees and the back to you original heat setting you should hear a clicking sound try that , if it doesnt click it's blown .

There is, in fact, a reset button on some electric water heaters. It is located on the black plastic box where the wires attach. It is usually a red button. Find it and press it.

We had to replace our heating element not long ago. We had to drain ALL the water out... and painlessly replace the element.
Call the plumber and pretend you might be hiring them for the job.... lol... tell them what is going on, and you might be able to do it all yourself with their insight!

Oh... I have a feeling with all the electrical work you did.... you fried the element. Just a guess.

Check both elements and their respective thermostats for malfunction. Power surges won't harm the elements as much as those control stats! :-)=

Check the pilot light first.

no your pilot light probably went out
