If my boyfriend and I get married (which we plan to do) I will be moving down to Weston, FL (in the Fort Lauderdale area) to live. I have grown up in an area where it does get hot and humid in the summer, but not as badly as I've heard Florida does. I hate humidity and prefer cool over hot, though I can deal with hot weather if there is air-conditioning. Is this flat out a bad decision for me? Does anyone know if the Weston area specifically gets extremely humid in the summer? Is it so bad that air-conditioning does not temper it?...

I live in Florida on the Gulf coast near Tampa. I've been here for 7 years and was also not used to the humidity. Florida is very, very humid. What you have to do is treat the summer down here like the winter up north. You stay in the air conditioning as much as possible. Your house, car, restaurants, shopping malls and everything is air conditioned. Where up north you stay in where it's warm in the winter, you do the same here in the summer. I love it here. Wouldn't go back to the cold for anything.

Yes - it's called Wintertime.

Don't worry air-conditioning does help, and if your from New England well the humidity in Ft. Lauderdale doesn't get any worse then it does here... it only lasts a little longer.

Lol, you're gonna have alot more to worry about than the humidity living in Weston. It may be a yuppy area but it's got problems, just like anywhere else in S. Florida. All of south Florida gets extremely humid, all year round.

Turn the AC, enjoy the swimming pool and the beach.
It is humid, very, very humid.

But, look at the good side, you are moving to one of the fastest growing cities in FL, it is not far from Ft.Lauderdale and Miami, Very convenient if you like to go to Tampa,Sarasota, Naples, etc, and the area is greener than the rest of South Florida.

Plan to spend a lot of time indoors. I moved from a very dry cool climate to a humid southern climate and the summer kills me every year. Turn down the A/C and make sure you like your home, cuz you'll be spending a lot of time there.

it does get really humid but the only difference.... it does it gradually and then stays. kind of like up north when it slowly gets cold and then stays that way for 6 months. i too don't like humidity and moved from michigan to florida. the humidity - while it stinks - isn't as bad as people think - once you get used to it that it!

You're screwed. Talk the boyfriend into Arizona. You'll thank me for it.
