I haven't seen "The Queen" yet, but I have always admired Helen a lot, not only for being beautiful (which she really is - I rate her looks over all those Hollywood stars) but incredibly talented and also loyal to her work. She never sold out to make a crass film or cash in for roles which would have made her more famous but less respected.
Prime Suspect is the immediate choice, it is brilliant and she works with a five-star cast; but she has done great work aside of that and I loved her in "Midsummer Night's Dream" .(Though I can't remember which version I saw her in; but I can bet she was great in both of those!)
I really didn't like "Calendar Girls" but that wasn't her fault.
For me, she is extraordinary and a person who deserves respect. Seeing her photo recently, I was amazed at how gorgeous she really is.
I wish I could look as good as she does when I reach her age, but sadly, already I lag behind!
She puts all the Hollywood female stars on a back burner because of her natural beauty, her integrity and her talent.
Here's to you, Helen! Sip.

No one has mentioned her current film, "The Queen," in which she gives a performance so mesmerizing that most critics consider her a shoe-in for Best Actress. Meryl Streep would be the popular choice but she has won so often that it would seem Helen Mirren has a really big shot. An actress of great range, not afraid to make a film, title I forget, in which four or five of her students invade her home, tie her up to the bed and it gets wilder from there. It is one of my guilty pleasures.

I have always seen her in Prime Suspect. That is what you should watch first because that was good.
She was in Calendar Girls- recently she seems to be taking off her clothes alot. I hate women always taking their clothes off- it's embarrassing, nothing to do with her age- I just hate women taking their clothes off. So I wouldn't watch that, but you might want to
She also came in Blue Remembered Hills, that was different. Based on Dennis Potter's play. She played a nine year old when she was 30!
That's all I know. Look on imdb.com and type in her name. All her films will come up along with messageboards for her and her films.

I really cannot agree with your estmation of Helen Mirren - she seems very one dimensional to me, and her Elizabeth 1 was an abomination!!

Remarkable actress...and so well preserved! No plastic surgery for her. You see what is there...hair, warts and all. I loved The Roman Holiday of Mrs Stone.

I like her acting but she seems a bit up herself in interviews.
Try a film called 'White Nights'
