Roald Dahl for me

I loved him when I was young and now my son loves his stories just as much, he really is timeless.

I think he appeals to the dark side of humour and wickedness that some children have !

Well Roald dahl is great for "and the motto of this story is", but then Judy Blume wrote some fantastic coming of age books. To be honest if we're talking greatest authors that everyone knows but didn't know they knew its probably hans christen anderson or the brothers Grimm tales, everyone knows them no matter how old/what generation you wre born into.

Dr. Suess. He was in a class by himself! All the authors you mentioned are excellent. Dr. Suess, though, turned generations of young children into enthusiastic readers. I think it takes a rare talent to tell an entire rhyming story, make it funny and interesting, and do it with such a limited vocabulary.
Green Eggs and Ham forever!

Roald Dahl, that man is the reason I have an imagination. And I also met him two weeks before his death and he read out loud a chapter from The Twits for our class, it was magical and I will never forget that day.

I love Dr. Suess. My kids both still love his stuff.

As kids get older, I would say Judy Blume and also C.S. Lewis.

Enid Blyton was the best. As a kid, I actually believed that somewhere in the forest there is a magic tree with the land changing every week on top. I was quite determind to run from home and find it.
