ok i am 35.5 weeks pregnant. I have been having cramping for about a week and a half, which has turned out to be early contractions, nothing significant yet. It just feels like menstrual cramps. I have also lost my plug on the 29th with no blood, and have been having softer more frequent bowel movements for about two weeks. Well, just yesterday i was told that my cervix is is softening and effaced....but i was not told how effaced on account of he is not my normal doctor, and he said he has no previous examinations to base it off of...so my question is...

what are your stories of effacement..(with your first pregnancy)...how long after being effaced did you dilate...how long do you think it could be for me till i deliver....just curious on everyones previous experience and what you think may happen for me.

Thanks!!
P.S. I am still trying to figure out this site..is it possible for me to respond to your answers..if so HOW? lol..thanks

I was usually effaced and dilated for 2-3 weeks before I delivered. You may have a little longer to go. The baby probably could use a couple more weeks anyway so don't rush it.

Keep your bladder empty. Drink lots of water and if you get too crampy lay on your left side and rest.

Happy Baby!

If you lost your plug on the 29th, it has regrown by now. If you don't go into labor in about 48 hours you grow a new plug.

How far dilated or effaced you are right now really means NOTHING about when you will do into labor. Checking dilation and effacement is just another way docs try to "manage" our pregnancies and births. Most midwives don't check your cervix until you are in labor and many won't do checks in labor unless you want it or they feel there might be a problem. You can walk around for a week or more dilated 3-4 cm and 100% effaced (I did with my first). Or you can be checked and closed up tight as a bank vault but still go into spontanious labor later that same day.

Trust your body and your baby to know when it is time.

I'm 37 weeks and a pair of days and am additionally four cm, however I'm one hundred% effaced. Baby A is at zero station. I felt cramps the day past after my examination- you perhaps within the identical boat. All that pushing they do to examine how dilated you're can intent cramps. I took a tylenol final night time, I've best had a couple of contractions at present. Anyway, I have an appointment for subsequent Wednesday! So I'm assuming that implies they consider I'll make it that some distance.

I was 100% effaced and dialated to a 3 for about 4 weeks. I had lost my plug and the soft stools about 4 weeks before I delivered, however my friend was effaced and she delivered about 2 weeks later. It depends on your body, I crapmed for several weeks before I delivered. . . good luck!

honey from what I've heard it could be still weeks before you get to full dilation. Just be patient and think you are only weeks (or hours?) from meeting your little angel. Sorry I can't be of anymore help, I'm expecting my 1st one too.
On the other hand...you can only answer to people by email..and if they have this option on in their profile. Good luck honey...
