I love that the first guy said he doesn't believe gays should have MORE rights than the average citizen. That gave me a good chuckle here at work.
I live in Virginia, and voters today are deciding on the most unconstitutional and just plain hateful peice of legislation in the United States. I think the amendment is drawing a lot of people to the polls. This amendment doesn't just ban gay marriage (gay marriage has been banned in Virginia for 30 years, so that would be redundant,) but it specifically disallows same parent adoption, hospital visitation rights, and rights of survivorship. Its been on the minds of Virginians for over a year now, and today we'll see.
If you aren't concerned about the way gays are being treated in this country, than you just aren't paying attention. Equal rights mean rights for EVERYONE. That said, I'm about to pack up and move to Vermont. It might be cold, but at least I don't have to worry about my neighbors voting for legislation that takes away my power of attorney or my kids.

Not at all. I try not to vote based on a candidate's stance on social issues (unless they're really nuts) because legislation regarding hotly debated issues like abortion and gay marriage are so mired in controversy that they're difficult to change. Any attempts to change social legislation usually end up deadlocked.
I'd prefer to vote based on a candidate's track record-- how much he or she has stuck to his or her word and gotten things done. Giuliani, for example: I disagree with him on many social issues, but he's a strong leader who cleaned up New York, weakened the mob, and almost doubled the police force in NY. So I'd vote for him again if he were on the ballot.

I do not vote for people who oppose gay marriage. Gays do not have the same rights as other Americans. They cannot marry, join the military, and if a gay person is in a coma and only friends and family are allowed to visit, cannot see their loved ones. There are many other examples of gays not having the same rights. While I am heterosexual, I firmly believe we have to stand together against ignorant people (Republicans). Vote Democratic today.

Shaft summed it up nicely!!!
Just_ine, are you implying that if you are gay you do not have the same rights as a straight person?
Gays cannot marry for one very good reason, Marriage is a term to describe the union of a male and a female ... before you get on your high heels and start kicking me for that read on ...
I believe that if you country is so stupid as to not accept m-m or f-f relationships you need to loby them for the right to "civil unions", a civil union holds the same rights as a married couple, but dose not piss anyone off by trying to redefine marriage.

Not one ounce. All Republicans are not "ignorant", as one responder stated. There are also Democrats that oppose gay marriage, You might want to get all of your facts straight so you do not continue to look "ignorant".

I'm heterosexual, but to each their own. As long as some guy isn't hitting on me, it doesn't matter. In answer to your question...No, it has no impact on my voting decisions.

Not at all.
Gays have the same rights as every other American citizen. Proposing special rights for certain groups is bigotry, plain and simple, and I do not believe in it.
