I've seen on the news today that the Church of England are slamming Royal Mail for not having predominantly "christian" scenes on their stamps this year. Lots of people celebrate christmas but not necessarily because they are christians or practice that belief system.

I celebrate christmas because its a great time of year to spend with your family & show each other how much you care,I don't celebrate it because I'm christian & I don't see christmas as the day for Jesus's birth as I do not follow a religion.

What does christmas mean to you? And do you agree that the christmas stamps should only show christian images, considering they are used by all faiths & ethnicities?

Not true that we wouldn't have Christmas w/o Jesus! It would be called something else, of course, but many pre-christian and non-christian cultures celebrated a holiday at the winter solstice, which is why the christians decided to put THEIR holiday there since people would already be used to celebrating. They just co-opted the pagan winter holidays and gave them a new name. It was not a part of Christianity in the early centuries at all and was considered a minor church holiday until maybe 200 years ago.

I enjoy christmas as a family time and the beginning of longer days. It has no religious significance to me at all. The religious people can claim the name, but the important parts of the holiday were in place long before their guy was born, if he even existed. The stamps should have wintery themes, as that's something all of us in the northern hemisphere experience in December.

I think Christmas stamps should have anything that's Christmasy on it,but yes I do celebrate it because it's Jesus's birth because if it wasn't for HIM we wouldnt have it.

I am offended when I see Xmas images since I have been hounded by the xian zealots for most of my adolescent life. I think that there is plenty of evidence to keep the religious nutcases away from the gov't or you get places like Iran, the taliban, morroco. etc. All of these places have sectarian violence.
