All the versions I have found have some retarded talking-down aura about them and added "can you make a cat sound?" crap between verses.
Are there any classy versions of this song out?

Dr. Demento played that song on his show a couple of months ago. You might try e-mailing him at www.drdemento.com and asking him about the version he has. I'm pretty sure he mentioned it came out in the 30's or 40's. Good Luck

Stompin' Tom Connors had a version, but it is so old I don't know where you would find it. You might try the National Film Board of Canada; they did an animated short and they version of the song they ussed was pretty straightforward. Perhaps they have a soundtrack available.

A friend of mine has a cd out called "East of 9". His name is Rick Hudson (in Delaware). He does a number of older/folk songs that are for all audiences.

Hopefully we are talking about the same song where everyone is trying to get rid of this cat and ....the cat came back the very next day...
