When you hand a task to the bureaucracy to perform, you are getting the very least value for your (tax) dollar. There is no incentive to do well in terms of meeting the needs of patients, but only to meeting the needs of the bureaucracy. Control and paperwork. You end up with an army of inefficient bureaucrats who all need salaries and benefits. They are very big on benefits.
I would prefer to see the old system of non-profit health care. Not all health care is non-profit, of course, and it's too late to turn back the clock on the advances made in the health care field due to profit motive. What we need, then, is a system of private institutions which provide insurance coverage for the uninsured, or perhaps clinics where doctors and other health care professionals donate their time as part of their contribution to their community. Back when taxes didn't kill off the urge, people were very generous in helping those less fortunate. Add to that the incentive on the part of employers to provide health insurance (because a healthy work force is more efficient), and you can, if you don't waste it on bureaucrats, serve the needs of the entire population of the country. And do so far better than it is being done today, I might add.
Vote Libertarian for a change.

Because it still ends up health care through a heirarchy needs. No one is turned away who needs health care.. just look at all the hospiotals in the southwest that have gone out of business due to free health care for illegal immigrants. Ask the Canadians along the Canadian/ US border why they go to the US for some of their healthcare.. Immediate care instead of waiting months for tests or imaging..

I understand that feeling…I think we should have healthcare for everyone. After all, European countries have it!
But sadly, this will never happen. Why? Because of the cost. People don’t want to pay higher taxes, and the government doesn’t want to spend their money on healthcare. Sad isn’t?
