If you are looking for a Laptop just for general computing, I'd say take a look at the Dell's.

I just met a lady the other day who spent $1800 on a Toshiba and she says it's terrible as far as performance is concerned. So shop around and don't necessarily get caught up in the high priced brands. You can get darn good laptops at some pretty reasonable prices.

My brother has a Dell Inspiron laptop for his work and it has been a good computer. My neice also has a Dell and she loves it.

I was always against Dell computers and a family member bought a Dell desktop and I liked it okay and shortly thereafter I bought one for my wife. It has been a great "basic" computer for all her general computing tasks. Note: she is not a high end gamer so as I said...."general computing".

I was looking at Dell desktops this morning, but not the Laptops. I'm really not a laptop lover at all. Anyway, my recommendation is to take a look at them, use the "customize" tool and pick out all the things you want and check out the price after you are done. All you have to do is hit the "add to cart" button to see the price after all your selections/customizations.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Check out either www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com You could probably get a good deal on either of those sites. You could also go directly to a manufactorer's site such as www.hp.com or www.dell.com I have a friend that purchased a hp laptop and she seem's happy with it. My wife had a toshiba when we got married and she had no complaints about that. Where I work, they use the dell laptops.
