I think it is normally expected that you buy the dresses for the bridesmaids and not insist they make their own.
I am not sure just buying them a pattern is a good idea simply because some of them could be good dress makers and the others could be rubbish, this could result in you having a very shoddy wedding
Go on hang the expense go out and buy them or at least makeif you are a good dressmaker make them for them

do a google search, that always works for me. walmart actually has some good bridesmade patterns.
