It's simply not true that Republicans don't recount votes-as a matter of fact, a recount is mandatory in many states-including Florida.
What was at issue in Florida was, although a hand recount is allowed, as in many states, counties differed as to how those recounts could proceed. So the hand recounts would proceed in some counties, then stop as Republican attorneys went to court to stop them. The US Supreme Court's final decision in 2000 was that Florida violated the Equal Protection Act (since the counties had different standards). What is interesting here is that MOST states in the US have differnet standards in different counties. It's also interesting that GW Bush as Governor of Texas signed into law the mandatory hand recount of ballots in close elections. And then went to court to stop it.
Update: Mid election day....Pennsylvania's Republican Party says it has filed an official complaint with the state government, alleging failures in voting machines. One aide to Republican Sen. Rick Santorum just told me they believe "hundreds" of votes are affected by these machine malfunctions.
The complaint claims that votes for Santorum were not counted - that they were either met with a "malfunction" signal or incorrectly cast as votes for Democratic challenger Bob Casey. Santorum's aides say they are waiting for an official response from the state.

The Democratic celebration isn't almost homogeneous through fact the Republican celebration. This makes their "filibuster-info majority" no longer so filibuster-info. There are countless Blue canines Democrats interior the Senate that proceed to be much extra socially conservative than something of their celebration. subject concerns like abortion pertain to the well being-care debate and would derail any hopes of pushing via considerable law. through fact the Democratic celebration is a different employer, it possesses a much broader array of calls for, frequently contradictory, that would desire to be fulfilled to thrill all Representatives, Senators, and their respective aspects. i think of many individuals do desire reform in well being-care, yet this law has been compromised to such an quantity that it somewhat is confusing for advocates of the two end of the spectrum to be enthused approximately. it is going to disillusioned people who desire limited government, and it is going to disillusioned those that want a equipment that resembles that of england, France, Canada, etc. I complication that reforming well being-care to require electorate to purchase plans whilst no longer offering a a minimum of a central authority option is only requesting a cartel or a minimum of places the insurance and the pharmaceutical industries in an inappropriately useful place. The Democratic majority in Congress did no longer take effect till 2007, following the 2006 mid-term elections. It wasn't only Democrats that blocked Bush's time table on the time. Many Republicans, worried approximately conserving their seat in Congress, have been distancing themselves from President Bush through fact his approval rankings have been interior the basement, going as far as to show down his visual charm at marketing campaign rallies.

Can you explain why the media reports a request for a recount as "sour grapes"? Why are you (and the Republicans) so upset by making sure everyone who voted has his or her voice heard?

You should be aware that our system of voting in this country is at best, suspect. Easily manipulated by the right dollar amount. And this statement from me applies to BOTH parties lest someone accuse me of bias.
