Well, you don't have to disable your firewall.

Depending on your router, you may/should be able to config the port forwarding.
e.g Azureus and Bittorrent uses port 6881. Go to your router config page (usually http://192.168.0.1) and enable port forwarding on port 6881 for a speciffic computer in the network (bt entering it's IP).

For a D-Link router go to the advanced tab and press the Application Button. Threre you can enter the trigger port (6881) and public port(s) 6881.

Cheers!

Never disable your firewall. That just opens you up to malicious hackers, scripts, and worms that are trying to access your computer. Trust me this is happening ALOT more than you may think.

Instead open the ports that BT requires so that those particular ports are allowed to bypass the firewall.

As for the mac filtering, that is for specifying which mac addresses are allowed to use your wireless router. So its only to protect your network, not you from external computers.

Why would you? If you need to forward some ports see www.portforwarding.com
