jim iwas a genius. eric has pretty much ridin the coattails of others his whole career. he only has written 2 hit songs on his own, layla and tears. everything else he's done have been songs written for him, or songs he's covered by other artists. he's a glorified blues bar singer. as far as guitar ability goes, jimi was truely revolutionary. eric is just another boring blues guitarist. same scales over and over again. jimi didn't really need anyone but himself. his first band consisted of 2 very bad musicians. the band of gypys, he was finally able to get some guys with talent. most of the music on his first 3 records, jimi was also playing the drums and bass, not mitch and noel.
eric wouldn't be anywhere withou having guys like john mayal, jack bruce, stevie winwood, duanne allman, jj cale and bb king by his side. his solo stuff??? come on! lame covers of bob marley, bob dylan and countless others.
no question. jimi hendrix. if jimi was alive in 2003 you know he wouldn't have to resort to hooking up with an 80 year blues legend to make 12 very uninspiring and tired blues songs to sell records.

Hendrix is a legend! No question. But, Clapton has a different fan base & is good at what he does. Personal preference, but, for me it's Hendrix all the way & back again.

Clapton as he was around for 30 years and Hendrix was only really around from 67-70.
Clapton also had more styles.
From the Yardbirds to Cream, through Blind Faith and then his solo stuff.

I think that there are plenty of blues guitarists. Eric Clapton is one of them, but there again there are dozens of others that use a similar technique and licks, and they are all a development of the basic Chicago Blues guitarist. The Jimi Hendrix style was unique and was not a totally obvious blues derivative. It was the very individuality of his playing that made him stand head and shoulders above other rock guitarists of the time. Others have since tried to emulate him, and all have failed.

I prefer Eric Clapton only because of the fact he has completed lots extra suitable than Hendrix has. He has worked with The Beatles and different marvelous artists and he's a great artist and songwriter himself. I hate to declare this because of the fact i like Hendrix's song with all of my being in spite of the undeniable fact that it variety of sounds like 2/third's of all of his song are covers. yet i assume Hendrix replaced into the extra suitable guitarist yet this is an entire different tale.
