There are huge numbers of Muslims who have in the past, and continue to condemn Al Qaeda, Osama Bin Laden, muslim suicide bombers, and anyone who kills innocent civilians.

Why aren't our religious leaders trying to contact them? Isn't it the christian thing to do?

Most "peaceful" muslims are more concerned with trying to combat discrimination against them rather than combat extremism within their own religion. They will lead a march on Washington to protest profiling of Arabs at airports but won't ever march anywhere protesting a terrorist attack. If you go to the CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) website, it is almost entirely dedicated to listing all of the ways that Muslims are being persecuted by the West, while barely paying any attention to the daily atrocities being committed in the name of Islam throughout the world. They need to turn their efforts inward. Stop trying to convince us that they are peaceful, and instead start convincing the islamo-facists in their communities that they are the real problem in the world today.

They can't rightly do that. I've studied the Quran myself, and violence (conversion by sword) IS indeed promoted. I've also spoken with several Muslims, asking them what specificially is believe in the Muslim community regarding "Jihad". It is believed that those who die in combat against "infidels" escape the judgement of Allah (who, BTW, is historically known to be a moon god, not the Christian God), and be rewarded with 72 virgins, 72 beds, and 72 mansions.
