I am thinking somewhere around Indianapolis or Chicago... hope that helps. I am considering the Art Institute of Chicago, the Art Institute of Indianapolis, Purdue, IU, IUPUI, Ballstate, Bethal, and Anderson.

It really depends on what part of the country you live in. Like when I lived in South Dakota, we have 80 acres there and we lived off $24,000 a year no problem and I had 5 horses there. Now I live in Georgia and I have 3 horses and make 60k a year...and I wouldn't take on another horse for anything...it's too expensive here. I personally think you could comfortably support a horse at a boarding barn where the cost was no more than $300 a month. And that is only if you are very careful with your finances. Also, you should have a emergency fund for your horse. I put $3,000 aside for my emergency fund. For me that is $1,000 per horse that I have. Good luck and best wishes.

The per capita (per person) income in the US varies widely from state to state and depending on the education of the individual, as well as their job of choice--someone can be highly educated and choose a low-paying job (such as teaching or working for a non-profit organization) or someone can have little formal education (high school drop-out even) and run a successful business.

Some resources to check are:

Per capita personal income by state:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/States_of_the_United_States_by_income

Occupational Outlook Handbook (to see what different jobs pay):

Salary Comparison Calculator (to compare the cost of living between different states):

Also, consider the cost of any loans you'll be paying back in the ten years after you finish school. My husband and I were paying more than $650/month combined when we got out school and we were some of the lucky ones--only $25000 in loans between us because we got great financial aid packages.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook (link above) will probably be the best source of information for you in terms of what jobs pay the best and what type of education and training you need to get them.

Good luck! :)

What wages one can live on in the U.S. depends on where in the U.S. It costs more to live in large cities as a rule, with New York, Los Angeles and Miami notorious for expensive living. Rural areas are less expensive and it varies from state to state as well.

E-mail me where you are going to college and I will be happy to help find out some things for you about that area.
