There is no excuse for talking to you like a monster. Unfortunatley, many people act one way in public and another way at home.

My mother was always a lot nicer in public and a yeller at home.

When people do this, they are "kicking the dog" . Either they are upset or afraid of someone at work and they can't resolve the issue there, so they go home and take it out on their loved ones. it is wrong, but unfortunatley, common. Milder forms include yelling, put-downs, or just acting sulky or grumpy when they get home. But acting like a monster to your spouse is severe and shouldn't be tolerated.
You need to get to therapy, preferably couples therapy, but if he refuses to go, you can get therapy for yourself. The therapist might help you decide what you could do about your husband or even if the marriage is worth saving.

my ex used to accuse me of that. But why should I be all smiley and nice when she was abusive and liked to start fights? My advice to you is take an honest look at how you treat him and see if you would be happy if you were him. If the answer is no, then fix the problem. if the answer is yes, then divorce him and find a new man.

sounds like there is some built up tention there, if he is nice to others and mean to you, not sure and not saying it is you, but is or was there somthing you might have done to peeve him off, that could be a reason, or maybe he is jsut a flat out dick, has he alwayz been like this or just as of late, if you really love him and think it could and or should work for you two talk to him and ask him that, and depending on the answer and if you still want to be with him after, and he is willing counciling, if not hate to say it, find some one else or live with it, your choice

He's typical of the type who is over-controlling with relatives and thinks he owns you. He thinks you are an owned object and can treat you as he wishes and your conversations have become disdainful to him. He is pleasant with others because e is treating them as a diversion from your presence and is trying to make them think he is a prince of a guy. Watch out for abusive treatment.

Because the other people he wants to charm, you he wants to control. He turns it on and off like a faucet. Someone I knew was like that.
