I recently bought a laptop. After turning it on for the first time it didn't take me long to find a defect: a single dead pixel. It's very small but noticeable. Since I didn't open the box until three weeks after I bought it, the store could not offer a replacement because it was outside of their 14-day window. They made a generous offer (which I accepted) to ship it back to the manufacturer at their expense. Should the manufacturer offer me a new laptop? (I have all receipts). Repairing a single pixel would probably cost them more than a whole new laptop.

Any thoughts anyone?

This is tricky.. The warranty does not usually cover single dead pixel defect..

Some manufacturers replace it if you have more than 5 dead pixels some if you have more than 8 etc.. You will have to have a close lookup on the warranty on the particular manufacturer...

Personally I only know one monitor manufacturer that offers single pixel warranty, so I am not very optimistic..

Maybe they get sorry for you that you have not even used it and override the company policy.. who knows.. I hope you luck!

Depends. Toshiba does it, but I'm not sure about the others. (I had a similair problem on my Toshiba.)
